Dear readers,

many of your have been following me for quite a while now, and my readership seems to increase on a daily basis. So far all I’ve published on this page were derivative works. Even though the current legal situation prevents me from charging money for them, a lot of time and money out of my own pocket go into those stories. That includes for example work hours, library fees for research, recurring fees for editing tools and writing software, recurring monthly hosting costs, etc.

In order to help cover those expenses, I’ve set up a Patreon page where you can become a Patron of my works and myself.

What is Patreon?

Before capitalism became the leading system in most Western countries, authors and artists relied on so-called patrons to finance themselves. Patrons were people with money (usually nobility or even kings), who liked the work of an artist so much they were willing to sponsor him and pay for his/her expenses.

Patreon is a modern hybrid of the patron-concept combined with crowdfunding. Meaning, artists can sign up, create a page, and everybody can become a patron. You like an artist and their work, and would like to show your appreciation? Patreon makes just that possible.

Much like Kickstarter, you can determine an amount of your choice to go to your favorite artist on a monthly basis.

After a lot of back and forth and encouragement from my friends and family, I’ve finally decided to put my Patreon site live. You can find it here: https://www.patreon.com/kimberleyjackson

Now, what does that mean?

1. Nothing will change. I have set the page up so that it works purely on a donation-based principle. If you’d like to show your support, great! I’m truly grateful, and you may receive some rewards as stated on the page. If you don’t want to donate, also fine. My stories will be just as accessible as before. On my patron page I’m asking for donations to support my expenses and myself–I’m not asking for payment for any of the art or stories I provide.

2. If you decide to become a patron (which would make me extremely giddy and put me in your debt), you might be eligible for some rewards, depending on the monthly amount of your support. Anything from $10 up will come with a personal thank you note and a postcard of your choice. And if you donate a monthly amount of $30 or more, on top of the postcard, you’ll be eligible to receive a free copy of any book/ebook I’ll ever publish in the future (for as long as you remain a patron).

I might add more rewards in the future, but at this point I don’t want to make promises I might not be able to keep.

So if you like my work, and you enjoy my stories, please head over to Patreon and check out my page. For as low as $2, you can become a Patreon and sponsor my writings and art. I’d be truly grateful if you did, and it would help me continue to write and create art, and provide (at least some it it) for free online.

Thank you all for your continuing support,

Kimberley Jackson
