Undercover – Part 2/2 Walter went nervously up and down, Jacob’s glances on him. “Don’t you rather want to sit down? I’m sure, she’s going to call us soon.” – “I said, she should call us immediately! She has gone for... 7 hours now! I have a feeling, that anything is going wrong!” – “They can’t know, she’s an agent of FBI!” – “No, they can’t, but what if they kidnapped her... we found the last victim three days ago and we weren’t able to act to stop the murders!” Jacob got up. “Damned, you make me nervous with your pessimism! Angela is able to protect herself! You weren’t there when we were fighting against praetorians! She was all on her own! Nobody was there to help her! And she did it! she won!” – “We aren’t playing a game where you can win or loose, Jacob! We’re trying to get dangerous murderers!” – “You’re right, this isn’t a game at all... but neither were praetorians! I experienced, that Angela is often not aware of times when to call somebody. I suggest waiting!” – “How long? Until we find her?” – “this isn’t funny!” – “it wasn’t meant to be a joke!” Angela was already 3 hours overdue and Walter got nervous. She had called them 7 hours ago for the last time. She had said, that she was okay, and that she would go with a strange guy to a special meeting place. And that she would call back in at highest 4 hours. Now 7 hours were gone. Walter was responsible for her. He knew, that he hadn’t been allowed to send her to this special case without permission of his superior... which was Jane Paraday who didn’t like him and had definitely said no. And then they wouldn’t have been able to find the murderers and the case would have gotten unsolved... a reason for Jane Paraday to close the CIC bureau. What a damned situation. “I shouldn’t have said no! If I...” – “If, if, if...” Jacob rolled his eyes. “If is irreal! You did send her on this mission! And we have to act, if we don’t hear anything.” And they didn’t hear anything. The hours passed without even a sign, that Angela was okay. Every time the phone rang, Walter jumped at the telephone in hope it were Angela. But she wasn’t. At 11.30 pm Jacob finally got up. “Listen... we get nothing if we sit her... insult each other and die of starvation! What do you think about if I went and got a pizza from anywhere?” – “Don’t you have courses on university tomorrow?” – “Sure, I have, but do you think, I’d go to school, until I heard from Angela?” – “Jacob! I pay too much for your education as if you could make free time!” – “Walter!!!” – “No! Stop! I don’t want to discuss about that! you’ll go home to bed now, and I’m gonna wait here!” – “I’m definitely not gonna do that!” – “You will!” – “No!” Their dispute was interrupted by the ringing of the telephone... and Walter jumped to the phone again. “FBI, bureau of CIC, Cizalski!” – “Trelawney here! I just want to know if Angela is okay.” – “Mr... Trelawney!” Jacob turned and looked at him. “Give me!” – “Listen, Mr. Trelawney... we... do have some... problems, but...” – “What does that mean?” Walter sighed and shook his head, when Jacob pleased his “Gimme, gimme, gimme!” – “Let’s say... either Miss Bennett isn’t able to read her watch... or she has just forgotten about the time... or...” He left the end of the sentence unspoken. Jacob grabbed for the receiver. “Sean? It’s me, Jacob! Listen... you don’t have to worry, ‘cause we have everything under control! We have special security men in the area, Angela is at the moment, and we’re going to call them immediately!” – “Jacob? What the hell is going on there? Give me Walter, please!” Jacob handed him back to Walter. “Listen, I’m really sorry about what happened, but we’re going to do our best...” – “I knew... I shouldn’t have let her go!” – “It’s not your fault!” – “No, it isn’t! And I swear, if anything happens to her, Cizalski, I’m gonna make you hell on earth! And believe me... I mean, what I say!” Jacob, who had listened shook his head. “He doesn’t mean it!” he said. It made a ‘click’ on the other hand and Walter stared at the receiver in his hand. “Damned!” he murmured. “Okay, Jacob! Call the security man and I...” he moaned. “I’m gonna make my way and tell Jane Paraday about what happened! She has to know... maybe she’ll close our bureau, but we have to act now!” # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # Darkness flooded the room, when the door shut. It was cold and Angela whimpered. Her shirt was half torn and that made her feel the coldness more intensively. She pulled at the shackles which held her wrists together. It was hopeless. She was alone and helpless, tied with this damned rope... in a lone room far away from any people. They hadn’t even tied her mouth. She could cry as loud as she want... nobody would be able to hear her. Desperation overwhelmed her and she felt tears flowing down her cheeks. What if she ended up just like the other murdered girls? What if they hurt her... or even more worse... raped her? She swore to herself, that she’d never, never go to a case alone again. # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # “WHAT?!?” Jane Paraday got up very slowly, facing Walter the whole time, her gaze burning like little needles. “You did what?” – “I’m very sorry, Ma’am, but I was the only...” – “Damned! You had to get a permission from me! You know, that this girl is too inexperienced to do anything like that! What the hell were you thinking? And what the hell got to your mind to give the permission without asking ME?” – “I’m sorry!” – “Do you have a clue, how to explain this to newspapers? If the last victim is found and it is a FBI agent who was working on the case? Wonderful headline, isn’t it? It makes the FBI look like a failure-company!” – “You can give the whole responsibility to me!” – “You bet I will! and Walter... this is going to break your neck! If anything happens to her... you are going to be blamed for that!” When Walter got finally out of her office, he breathed deeply. This hadn’t been as bad as he had thought it would be. And he had the permission to do everything doable to find Angela. If he didn’t... he’d have a couple of problems. # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # When she heard the door being unlocked, Angela opened her eyes abruptly, prepared to defend herself if necessary. The bright light that flooded the small room abruptly burned in Angela’s eyes and she shut them with a low moan. Seconds later she felt herself being pulled up to her feet. “come on sweetie!” The voice of a man spoke, he pulled the cloth out of her mouth and then pulled her out of the room. Angela cried out in pain when he pushed her harshly. “Ouch...” – “Shut up, bitch!” She looked into the eyes of a couple of people, men and women, who were standing in black robes in front of her. “Prepare her for the ritual!” One of them, who seemed to be the leader said and looked at two women. They went to Angela and pulled her behind a small wall which consisted only of paper... or at least some kind of paper. A black pattern was sewed onto it and it gave a feeling of being in a Japanese house. The women untied the rope which held Angela’s wrists together and was about to pull her shirt out. Angela cried out. “touch me, and you’re dead!” the woman didn’t pay attention to her desperate attempt of refusing the inevitable. Five minutes later Angela wore a black piece of clothes and looked the same as the other persons in the room. She was guided to some kind of altar where she was told to lie down. “Oh no!” Angela turned. “You know, what you’re doing? This is kidnapping and duress and I’m sure about an half of you will go to jail, if... hey...” Two men lifted her up and lay her down on the altar. Angela tried desperate to free herself. “What do you want?... Leave me...” She tried to slap the men’s faces, but they were too strong and all she get was, that her wrists were tied to the altar. At last she lay sobbing and at her end on the altar. The leader came to her and touched her cheek. “It’s okay, my daughter. You’re going to be one of our children... that’s what you wanted, isn’t it?” Angela shook her head. “No... I wanted... I wanted to get information at first... and...” She saw two of the men lower to them. One of them took a injection in his hand and the second... Angela caught her breath. A glowing iron... he held it between to metal sticks. Angela writhed herself in the desperate attempt to get free. “What do you have in mind?” Her voice was shaking. “Don’t worry... you’ll not feel pain.” He gave a sign to the man with the injection. “This is a very useful medicament... called Zero. You’ll need it constantly after the second take of it. Well... normally already after the first consuming... but we mixed it a bit...” – “NO! HELP! HEEELP!” She felt her arm being held by the man. “NO! Please! Have mercy... I don’t want... pleease!” she felt the pain, when the needle buried in her skin. “SEEEAN!” She felt a strange agony taking possess of her mind. Sean... you‘ve always been there when I needed you... please... help me! Then she fell into a passiveness which made her feel nothing anymore. So she didn’t get, that a woman suddenly entered the room. Her skin was darker than that of white people and her dark hair was softly curled. She looked different... like a woman from business and she seemed to be a woman in power. “STOP!” She ran to the altar, looking into the face of Angela... her mouth formed a slight smile of triumph. Then she looked at the leader. “Mr. Backham... I’m sorry, but you’ve to find another victim! I’ll get you one... but you can’t sacrifice her. I need her!” – “Miss Kelly! That’s impossible! We’ve already prepared her!” – “then you’ll have to start again with a new girl!” – “You seem to forget that without us... you wouldn’t have gotten a chance!” he said and the woman’s gaze darkened. She pulled him close to her. “and you seem to forget, that I have enough power to destroy your whole sect. Don’t forget that the police is longing for the murderers fervently. One phone-call by me and...” – “That’s blackmail!” – “Yeah... but you can’t say, that I started it!” she smiled coldly. “Okay...” The man finally nodded. “untie her and give her to our... partner!” – “Thank you!” Angela was untied and she got up automatically. She didn’t know what she was doing, she just did, what she was told to do. “and best wishes!” The woman said and grasped Angela’s wrist. “Come on...” she said harshly and Angela followed her. Out of the room, the woman looked at her. “What a fortune, isn’t it? I’m looking the whole time for a reason to get him back, and now you’re standing here!” They entered a part which seemed to be under the earth. “But don’t worry... I’m still in need of you.” they passed a security door and went inside. They heard a short ring, then a man’s voice. “Anna Kelly! Anna Kelly! Come to Mr. Pack, please! We’ve some problems with communication!” Anna sighed. “fine... all to thank you for, Angela Bennett! But a ‘newstart’ of praetorians wasn’t that hard you’ve all thought it would be!” she laughed coldly and looked at a man. “Hey! Take her to a room. She has to sleep and if she’s hungry, you’ll get something eatable for her, understood!” – “Yes, ma’am!” He nodded and took Angela with him. # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # “Jacob Resh!” Jacob held the receiver in one hand while he gave orders to his computer with his other hand. “Sean! ...Yeah...” He listened and slowly stopped to write, his eyes widening in disbelief. “What? Yeah... come here immediately! We’ll be waiting for you! Yeah... See ya!” +++ UNFINISHED +++ Author’s Note on April 14, 2006 I never finished this story.
