Return to an ‘usual’ life The medallion of the necklace shimmered in the pale moonlight of the full moon. The soft reflections of the water played their own game on Angela’s jacket and her face, which was covered with tears. This time I’m not going to come back. Sean’s words had burned deeply into her hard. When she thought about it, she tried to sob again. In that moment, she had felt such an anger. Anger, that he’s tried to kill her after all that had happened. Anger, that he had just wanted to die. Anger that he had betrayed her, yes, anger, that he wasn’t in prison, too. And then he had given this necklace to her. The necklace of her father, and she had realized a message in this gesture. The necklace of her father. How had he been able to get it? Had he stolen it from her? No, she remembered, that she had lost it! Any time in the first time she had been on the run. He must have found it and he had saved it the whole time. The necklace, which was part of her, Angela Bennett. But so many things had changed. She could never be the Angela Bennett from before again. But at the moment, she was sure, that she wasn’t strong enough to be anything or anyone. She felt such an overwhelming pain deep inside her. The couldn’t fight against the tears. The man whom she had loved was dead. Okay, she had her life back, but she didn’t want it without him. She got up and went to the railing. She looked at the water, which seemed to be so deep. And when she looked to the horizon, there was nothing but blackness. No light... except some stars. Angela pressed the necklace to her heart. She didn’t notice, that it had started to rain, a fact, that often happened at the East coast. She climbed up the railing and sat down of the metal rod. Then she looked down into the black water. She shook from sobbing. Today in the office she had been able to hide her true feelings, but now... if anyone would ever get out, that she and Trelawney had had an affair, she would go to prison as a praetorian too. Her chief, Jane Paraday didn’t trust her yet, so she had to be damned careful. But she wasn’t sure, if she wanted to be... “No matter, how dark the horizon is now, soon there’ll be a soft light and tomorrow the world looks quite different!” Angela turned her head to the side and looked into the face of an old man. He held a bottle of tequila in his hand and seemed to be homeless. “What?” she asked confused and the man smiled. “Believe me, dear! I’ve been at this point so often! And I always believed in the dawn, which would be bringing the light and joy back to my heart.” Angela sobbed again. “this is different! There’s not going to be a dawn for me!” – “There’s always going to be a dawn!” – “My lover... died today... before he tried to kill me, and... I trusted him... and he said I had to trust him... but... he... he tried to kill me! He was shot... and he gave this to me and the worst is, that I felt anger... fury, when he was shot!” Silence. Only the rain could be heard hitting the street, building small rivers which searched their ways to the canalization. “look... dear... sometimes... we feel anger in wrong moments. But... no matter what you felt then... it is important what you feel now. I see, that you still trust him!” – “He betrayed me!” she whispered. “He betrayed me so often... I could never be sure, if he was honest!” – “Look at me, sweetheart! Look into my eyes! What do you see?” Angela shook her head. “I don’t know... honesty... courage... not sure.” She looked back to the water. “And what did you see in his eyes? Have you ever seen lies in his eyes concerning his love? Have you ever seen a lie in his eyes, when he told you that he loved you?” – “He never told me.” Angela murmured. “at least not directly. But... he gave me that before he died. I lost it... some time ago, when we met for the first time, and he... he kept it... the whole time!” she looked at the jewelry, which was blinking in the light. “Go home and wait for morning! You’ll see... I am right!” He helped her down from the railing. “Suicide is never a solution for anything!” Angela nodded and went her way to her apartment. After ten meters she turned once again. “Thank you!” – “Things aren’t always what they seem to be!” the man said softly and waved, then he made his way along the way at the railing. Angela shook her head. She was still sobbing, but she’d go home. She didn’t realized the distance... actually she didn’t realized anything. Forty-five minutes later she reached her apartment. It was small, but it was very comfortable, a fact that didn’t matter to her at the moment. She was completely wet, when she reached the door. She unlocked it and entered her apartment. Throwing her shoes into one corner, she didn’t even made the attempt to turn the light on. Firstly she still didn’t know where the light switch was and secondly she didn’t want the light now. She threw her jacket into another corner of her living room and pulled then her pants out. “Uh... go on!” When she heard the familiar voice, Angela turned abruptly and switched the light on. She was shocked. Sean Trelawney was standing before her, smiling and not dead at all. Angela grabbed her police gun. “Stay away and don’t try to kill me!” she said warning. He shook his hand. “what a welcome! Shall I go?” – “I don’t like jokes!” – “Good, I don’t either!” silence. They just stared at each other. “You tried to kill me!” Angela mentioned then. “I wouldn’t have done it!” – “How can I know, you’re not lying?” she asked doubtful and he looked deeply into her eyes. “He can’t!” He recited, what she’d once said to him. (*Episode 3 – Transplant) She slowly sank her gun. “How can you... how are you... I mean... Walter shot you... you can’t...” she stuttered. He laughed and went to the kitchen. “Very comfortable. I must say, FBI agents get good apartments! Mmm... did they fill you the refrigerator?” Angela couldn’t say anything. “I... just don’t understand...” – “I’ll explain all to you, honey!” He smiled and took an apple. “Wanna too?” – “no...” she murmured and laid her gun back. “how could you... I saw you die...” – “Yeah... look... in two days you can arrange everything! I brought a new person back to life, but Sean Trelawney had to die!” – “What?” – “See it as my last computer crime, CIC agent Angela Bennett!” He gave her a new pass. “Sean Trelawney.” She looked up and he grinned. “I erased the Michael! I never liked my second name!” – “Lawyer in Virginia, not working at the moment, amnesty international worker... uh... that doesn’t match you.” – “That’s not fair! And? Wanna arrest me now?” He gave his wrists to her, but she turned away and went to the window. She gazed out into the darkness. “Angel?” He really worried, but suddenly she turned furious. “What the hell are you thinking? I really worry, I’m completely down! I try to understand this...” she lifted the necklace from her father. “I wonder where you got it from... I cry the whole evening... I almost throw myself into the ocean and than you stand here and show me your new identity, that just... isn’t fair...” she sobbed again, then suddenly she threw herself into his arms. “Do you imagine at all, what I’ve been through? Can you think about what I felt?” She shivered and he held her softly. “Angela... shht... I’m here! I’m sorry...” – “No, you aren’t!” she murmured and looked up. He softly wiped her tears away with his thumb, looking into her eyes. “I said, trust me!” – “I did trust you! but... I just couldn’t after you... tried to kill me today... and then...” – “I tried to give you a clue, didn’t I?” – “What a clue?” – “I gave the necklace to you. I hoped, you would trust me again, if you...” he cut himself down, when she shook her head. “I saw you die! How could I... How should I... I mean...” – “I had to kill Sean Michael Trelawney... I’m sorry... but I had some friends at FBI... you know... some who would like to keep her job, what they wouldn’t do if I said, that they were spies of praetorians.” He smiled. “I offered them a little deal... which was pretty easy. Help me and I’ll...” – “Stop!” Angela lifted her hands. “I’m not sure, if I wanna hear the rest. I’m FBI agent now, and if you tell me of a murder, I’m forced to arrest you!” she smiled slightly. He shook his head. “No more murder now. No more crimes and no more lies! Okay?” She nodded. “Okay! Give your hand! ...And if you break your promise... you’ll fly out of my apartment... if you’re here!” she laughed and leaned her head against his shoulder. “Sure, that nobody’s gonna blackmail you?” – “No... but that’s what makes life exciting!” – “I wanna have your nerves!” She murmured. “We’ve to be careful! If my chief sees you... she doesn’t believe, that I’m Angela Bennett. She thinks, I’m Liz Marx who changed her identity into Angela Bennett. I have a feeling that she’s going to make a hell for me in my lessons there!” – “more hell, than you’ve already gone through?” – “Very funny, Trelawney! What about Anna?” – “She was shot in the mess in our database.” He said and Angela freed herself. “I’m sorry.” – “You needn’t. ‘Cause I think, she also started a new life!” – “What? I thought, she was...” – “Officially!” He grinned and Angela sighed. “I better don’t ask, if you already have a new database!” – “I do not! But I’m sure, praetorians will always exist. We... excuse me... they have been existing for nearly 2000 years. They’ll not be destroyed that easy!” he sat down on her sofa. “Uh... I hope, Mariano is not going to see you here!” – “Who is that?” – “A friend of mine. Well... at least he was a little more... but that’s past... for me...” she smiled helplessly. “As I said... for me! He’s very jealous. Also at Jacob!” – “Jacob?” – “Sorcerer.” She took two glasses out of her cupboard and a bottle of wine out of her refrigerator. “He’s a boy... 18 and he always know everything better!” she turned with the full glasses. “You see... you were wrong the whole time!” she smiled charming. “you’ll got to know him... uh... I think, you already know him. That guy I was with the whole time!” She sat down next to him and he covered his face with his hands. “I’m such an idiot!” – “no comment!” She laughed, when he pulled her close to her. “Attention, Miss Bennett... I can still be very dangerous.” – “And I can shout for help!” she smiled and he shook his head. “I don’t think so.” – “You don’t? Why?” – “’Cause it’s very hard to do... shout for help, while you kiss somebody!” – “Oh... I see the difficulty!” she smiled and retired a bit from his mouth. “But it’s doable, I bet.” – “Let’s try!” – “Okay...” Their mouths met in infinite tenderness and love. Angela flung her arms around his neck, not wanting to let him go again. She had had the feeling of having lost somebody very important, and from now on she wouldn’t play with guys again. She had changed in the past years... and she began to like her new life. And when they sank to the bed some minutes later, she forgot about everything. Her old life as well as her new life. She just felt the present. “No... Jacob! Be happy with what you have!” Angela lay on her tummy on her bed, the telephone in the one, her book in the other hand. “come on! You get a good job... at a computer... and I’ve to go to lessons too!” She lifted her eyes, when she heard Jacob cursing. “My goodness, Jacob! We could also have been arrested, couldn’t we? ...What?... Uh... do we have to talk about this at the telephone? I... no, I don’t want to use the internet! ...No! Who know which organization is still out there! ... Jacob... there’s no protected link! ...the codes! ...No, I’m surely not gonna hack the old system for getting a private satellite code! I’m FBI and I wanna keep my job! ...Uh... you’re such an idiot, junior!” Sean Trelawney looked up and grinned. Angela showed him to keep silent and threw a pillow towards him. “no... Mariano isn’t here. Why? ...WHAT? WHEN? ... fifteen minutes ago... wonderful! Jacob, I’ve gotta finish! No... I... I have to clean my apartment! ...Yeah... yeah, see ya!” she finished the call and jumped up from her bed. “Wonderful... oh god...” she covered her face. “Okay... Sean... you’ve gotta go! Mariano comes and if he sees you here... he knows you... and he’s jealous! He’s come from New York and phoned Jacob...” this moment the doorbell rang. “Wonderful!” Angela ran to the door. “Who’s it?” – “Mariano, sweetie!” Angela laughed. “just a moment!” She grabbed Sean. “come on!” – “What... what are you doing?” – “Shut up!” she murmured and opened her wardrobe. “Go in there!” – “how romantic!” he said sarcastic. Angela smiled. “I’ll free you soon!” she kissed him softly, when it knocked. “Sweet Angel! Whatcha doing?” – “I’m...um... dressing myself on!” Angela shouted and smiled at Sean. “sorry, darling!” then she shut the door and opened the front door. “Hi... Mariano! Where are you...” – “Hi, honey! I just wanted to see, how you’re living you new life!” – “Uh... it’s okay!” – “How comfortable!” – “Yeah!” she stood in front of the wardrobe, protecting the doors with her back and smiled heart-breaking. “What do you think about...” she thought despairing. “...about... a café! I know a very good one!” – “Now? Okay... may I stay here for some days?” – “Um... I don’t think that’s a good idea!” – “Why?” – “Because I’m still... getting used to this whole... new... life!” – “Ah... yeah!” He nodded and she took her jacket. “Let’s go!” she said extra loud and shut the front door behind her. Then they left the house. It would be a stressing new life, but she already knew, that she’d like it by the side of her beloved Sean.
