Journey to the past by Ainoyume Boring. This mission was nothing than boring, even if Kathryn sat in that Shuttle with her first officer. But today, something was lying in the air. They had a awful disputing this morning, and since that, they hadn’t spoken anything. Kathryn knew, he had been right, when he said, that she should go to her quarters. She had been on the bridge for more then 19 hours. But she had wanted to finish the report she had been working on. Kathryn couldn’t apologize. She should do, she knew that... but she couldn’t. Maybe she was a little bit too stubborn. “We are reaching the planet!” Chakotay reported and looked at her. Janeway nodded. “Okay. Let’s try to fly a little bit deeper into the atmosphere! I would like to taste something out. Maybe we could scan the planet much better.” Chakotay shook his head. “No, Captain. I notice some plasma storms in the atmosphere. It’s unlikely, that we would still live, if we fly deeper!” – “Mmm...” Janeway nodded. “Well... then nothing lasts then scanning from here!” She typed on the keyboard of the Shuttle, then she leaned back. “I think, it will take a little more then five minutes.” He kept silent. Damned. This silence made her feel uncomfortable. “Chakotay?” – “Mmm?” He didn’t look up from his screen, from where he watched the scanning. “I... this morning... maybe I was a little... unfriendly!” He looked at her. “Unfriendly? I wouldn’t say, that’s the right word! You were stubborn, although you knew, I was right! And you were harsh!” – “I’m sorry about that! But... I can decide by myself, when it’s time to sleep!” she said and he looked back on his screen. “I don’t think, this conversation is worth to be continued. You are getting harsh and unfriendly again!” – “Damned! Chakotay! I’m the Captain!” she said growling. He looked at her again. “Ah! Understood! The “I’m-the-Captain-you-are-the-first-Officer” Part! I know the rules. First: The Captain is always right. Second: If the Captain isn’t right, rule 1 becomes effective automatically. Right?” He laughed. “Kathryn... I think, that isn’t the right way!” She kept silent and was only looking angrily. Silence again. Suddenly, this silence was broken by a chirp. “What is that?” Kathryn asked and typed on her keyboard. “I don’t know!” Chakotay said. “Something is coming. It looks like... a shock wave... with temporary factors! Attention!” The little Shuttle shook and was taken by the wave. It whirled around and was suddenly disappearing. “Uh...” Kathryn closed her eyes, when she noticed a bright light, burning in her eyes. She protected her eyes with an arm, then, slowly, she looked around. Where was she? It was a forest... at least, there were some trees around her and... Kathryn breathed deeply in shock. “Chakotay!” All, what had stayed from the Shuttle were lonely parts of the cover. “Chakotay?” Kathryn took some parts and threw them to the side. Suddenly, she heard a moaning. “Chakotay! Are you okay?” She got to her knees and felt his pulse. Slowly, he opened his eyes. She smiled. “You are okay!” She said. “What happened?” he asked, while he was sitting up with Kathryn’s help. “I don’t know! But we are in a forest or something. I guess, we are on the planet.” He nodded and got up completely. Then he saw the Shuttle. “Oh, wonderful!” He took a part. “I hope, Tuvok will find us soon.” – “I started a S.O.S. signal before this happened!” Kathryn said and started to go out of the forest. When she entered a huge field, she hold breath for a little moment. “Chakotay!” She whispered. “This is like... earth!” He typed on his tricorder. “Yes... but... when I scanned the planet in the Shuttle, it was shown as a volcano planet.” They looked at each other. “We are not on the planet, right?” Kathryn asked. Chakotay looked back at the Shuttle. “If I could get the scanners repaired, I could give you an exact answer.” Kathryn smiled. “Let’s give it a t...” She stopped, when she saw many people running over the field. It were many men, but some women, too and... they were human. “We should hide!” Kathryn suggested, but Chakotay hold her. “No... they’ve already seen us.” The people came, and firstly, they only looked, a little bit frightened, then they came nearer. “Where did you come from?” One huge man looked at Chakotay. Kathryn started to explain. “Sir... we didn’t want to invade your world, we...” – “What have you done with your wife, allowing her to speak without permission?” Kathryn stooped, confused and angry at the same time. Chakotay rescued the situation. “He’s right! I didn’t allow you to speak!” He laughed. “I’m sorry. She is a little bit... stubborn sometimes! Well... let me explain. We tried a... machine. But we failed.” – “Where’s your home?” the man continued asking. “Our home is... far away!” Chakotay answered. “But we will return home as fast as possible!” – “Oh no!” The man lifted his hands. “You are our guest as long as you want to be! Hey! Marina! Run to my property and say Elisabeth, that she is to prepare a guest room! Hurry up, you stupid girl!” he said angrily. Then he nodded at Chakotay. “Come with me!” Chakotay looked at Kathryn. “We better follow him!” – “I don’t think so! We should try to repair...” – “Kathryn!” Chakotay warned. “This time, you should listen to me! We can’t do anything, even if we had our scanner! If I am right, we are on earth on 18th century. And in that time, women didn’t have any rights! So you better keep silent!” Kathryn caught breath. “Commander!” she protested, but then she followed him. “How do you know, we are on earth in 18th century?” – “My tricorder. He saved all data since that... whatever it was. And he calculated. Well... and furthermore, they spoke English, didn’t they?” He took her arm and pulled her with him. “You are hurting me!” Kathryn said angrily and his grab got softer. “I’m sorry. But we shouldn’t act against their rules. I don’t want, that they start asking questions again, because they don’t believe, what I said.” Then they went with the people the way along to the little town. Harry Kim looked up. “It’s a message, Sir!” He stopped shortly. “SOS! It’s from our Shuttle!” Paris turned around. “But where are they?” Tuvok looked at Harry. “Ensign! What are long range scans showing?” – “Nothing Sir!” Harry Kim reported. “They... disappeared. As if they had never been here.” – “That’s impossible! There must be a sign. Scan subspace, too!” Tuvok ordered, then he looked at the screen again. “Sir!” Harry looked up. “Scans show a shockwave, 1,6 lightyears away. It has temporary factors in it. And... some wreckage is shown.” – “Lieutenant Paris! Set a course!” Tuvok ordered. “Let’s have a detailed look on that wave!” – “Aye, Sir!” Kathryn felt uncomfortable, when she was brought in the great hall. After they had arrived in the town, they had been brought to a huge house. Kathryn had to go with some women, who had helped her with her bath and gave her a new dress. Kathryn hated to be helped with bath and dress up. Just as she hated to go through that hall, the women by her side. Then they entered another room... Kathryn thought, that it was the dining hall... where Chakotay and the man from before sat on the table. “Ah... there is your wife! Please sit down, Lady, Catherine, am I right?” – “Kathryn!” Chakotay said friendly. “Mmm... Kathryn... weird version of the name... but your name is weird, too. Where is it from?” Chakotay smiled. “It is from... my home! The town, where we come from!” – “Ah! It sounds a little bit like an Indian name.” The man sighed. “Have you heard yet? Some of that red devils killed whites again!” Kathryn looked directly at him. “Well... what would you do, if some people came, took your land, your house and your woman and say to you, that you are to go? Wouldn’t you take revenge, too?” She got silent, when she saw the warning glance of Chakotay. “I’m sorry!” she said. Chakotay looked back at the man. “Well... duke... my wife is a little bit badly trained!” – “And she has some weird perspectives of life!” The duke looked at Kathryn. “Lady... the Indians are savages. We have to civilize them! We gave them God! That ones, who chose to serve good, will be rescued... the other chose to die!” Kathryn kept silence. She knew, in 18th century, people thought, that their way of life was the only one, who was right. “Well...” The duke said. “ELISABETH! The dinner, please!” A young woman came in, put some plates to the table, bowed deep to the ground and left then. Kathryn looked after her confusing. In what a horror were they? The window was open and it was cold in the room. Kathryn froze, when they entered accompanied by the duke. “Well... good night!” – “Yes! And thank you for the wonderful meal!” Chakotay answered, then he shut the door. Kathryn shivered. “Damned cold, don’t you think?” Chakotay nodded. “Yes... but the bed seems to be warm.” – “There is only one!” Kathryn noticed and sighed. “What a hell!” She sat down on the bed and took the blanket around her back. “I think, they are used to that coldness. And you’ll get used to, too! I mean... if we have to stay here!” Kathryn looked angrily. “Don’t say such things!” She sighed louder. “Do you want to sleep on the ground... or am I to?” He looked at her confused. “Gods, Kathryn! Sleeping on the ground? That’s much too cold! I suggest... we take the bed!” He shut the window, what took allot of power. “Well...” She nodded. “Okay! I’ll ask for another blanket!” – “And which reason do you want to give?” he asked and she shrugged her shoulders. “We came from a country, which is much warmer in the nights!” Chakotay smiled. “Okay, give a try on that one!” – “Thank you for permission!” she growled and then she left the room. Short after she came back with another blanket. “Greetings from Duke! For you!” she said and shut the door angrily. “I have never seen a world, intolerant like that! Women have no rights... huh... what a nonsense!” He took the blanket. “It’s earth’s past! We aren’t allowed to judge about their way of life! Let’s hope, that our friend will find a way to bring us back. Otherwise... you’ll never have rights... and I’ll be your husband forever!” – “That’s enough reason!” she smiled at him, then, suddenly, she got serious. “Chakotay... I’m sorry about this morning. I know, you were right, but...” He smiled. “It’s okay! Let’s forget about that.” Kathryn looked at the thin night-dress. “Uah... I think, I will stay in that dress!” He looked at her confused. “this is the only dress, you have!” – “I know, but it is much warmer, that this nightdress.” She lay down and pulled the blanket over her body. She heard him changing clothes, then he lay down in the bed, too. “Good night, Kathryn! Sleep well!” – “Yes!” Kathryn turned her head around. “You too!” He closed his eyes, but short after he heard her get up. “I’m going crazy in that dress! It feels so uncomfortable!” She used a bad language. Chakotay laughed. “Maybe you should chose the nightdress?” – “Very funny, Commander!” Kathryn growled. She changed clothes too, and lay down again. Then she sighed. “Oh, I knew it! It is so cold in this dress!” He turned around and looked at her. “Do you want me to keep you warm?” – “If you do that, you can sleep outside the house!” Kathryn said angrily and he smiled. “Then stop moaning!” She got silent. Time passed. Over an hour later, Kathryn looked at Chakotay. “Are you sleeping yet?” she asked softly. “Yes!” he answered and looked at her. She smiled back. “I have to think about what, if we don’t come home again!” His glance got serious, then he touched her cheek. “We’ll return to Voyager!” He said. “I am sure of that. We managed much worse things, then being in the past!” She closed her eyes. “Yes!” Holding his hand, she felt sure. Some minutes later, she was sleeping. He pulled his hand softly away from hers and closed his eyes, too. “They are from our Shuttle!” Harry reported sadly. “But... it seems like this are only a few parts of the cover. The rest is vanished. And I notice a temporary anomaly! It seems like something passed the time frontier!” Tuvok nodded. “The shock wave is possibly a gateway to other times.” Tom looked at him. “Yes, and when we fly through the wave, we should find the Captain and Commander Chakotay.” Tuvok looked at him. “We have to find the exact factors, in that they passed the gateway. Speed, time, course, etc. Bridge to Engineering.” – “Torres here!” B’Elanna answered. “We need the exact factors of the Shuttle, when it passed the shock wave! Will you manage this?” – “Yes, but it will take time! Let’s say... six hours!” Tuvok nodded. “Hurry up, Lieutenant!” It had been the most horrible night, Kathryn had ever had. She was shivering because of coldness. The sun had already risen, and so Kathryn got up. She opened the window quietly and looked out. It was fresh, but not really cool. Kathryn went to her dress. She took it and went quietly out of the room. She would look for water. When she went out of the housedoor, she saw a young girl standing there. It seemed to be a servant. “sorry, Miss!” – “Mmm?” The girl turned around. “Yes?” – “I need a bit of water. Do you know, where I can get it?” The servant nodded. “Sure! There is a well and here is a bucket.” – “Um... tha-thank you!” Kathryn took the bucket and went to the well. She took some water and hold her hand inside. It was cold as ice. She sighed. “Damned. I’ll never go to a shuttle mission again!” she murmured at herself, then she took the bucket of water and went back into the house. When she entered their room again, she put the bucket on the ground. She breathed heavilly. The bucket alone was already very heavy. But with water... that was too much. “Some problems?” Chakotay sat up. Kathryn gazed at him. “I’m not in condition for jokes. Icy- water, cold blankets... and the worst... maybe we have to stay forever in this... this... damned time.” She turned around and looked out of the window again. “I’m going to return to our shuttle. Maybe I’m able to repair anything.” – “I don’t think, that’s a good idea!” Chakotay said. “Some people could follow you.” – “I’m not going to sit here and wait until Voyager will perhaps find us.” Kathryn answered and turned around. She noticed his glance and that took her out of concept. “I... I mean...” She got silent. He turned his head away and got up. “Well... then we should go together.” Two weeks later: “System’s check?” Janeway asked and looked at her first officer. “All systems are on-line and seem to work without mistake.” Kathryn nodded and smiled. “Well, let’s see if we can get the old lady into space!” She started the Shuttle and they lifted into the air. “Let’s see if we can use impulse!” chakotay nodded and pushed some buttons. Suddenly the Shuttle shook. “What’s that?” Kathryn asked and looked at Chakotay. “I don’t know. Some... fluctuations... maybe...” – “I try to recalibrate our shields.” Then, suddenly Kathryn felt pain in her head. She cried, and then she felt only total darkness and silence. “Mmm...” Kathryn lifted her head. A pain came to her and she shut her eyes again. She tried to get up, but something was with her foot. So she only was on her knees and opened the door of the Shuttle. She had only one thought. Out of here. She forgot about her foot and so she cried in pain one second later. She fell to the ground. She tried to get up again, but her head was fighting with unconsciousness. She crawled to the exit and fell out of the Shuttle into damp grass. Then she lost consciousness. “Kathryn?” Chakotay looked around in the Shuttle. Why had Kathryn gone without any message? Then he saw her lying in the grass. He felt her pulse and then he slapped her cheeks. “Kathryn! Wake up! Come on!” He ran for a medical tricorder, but short after, he threw it back into the Shuttle. “Damned! Kathryn! Can you hear me?” She sighed and opened her eyes. Her head seemed to be only pain and her ankle too. She moaned. “My... ankle...” He touched her cheek. “Keep silent!” He said softly and got up. Something in this damned Shuttle had still to work. Suddenly he heard noise from outside. He went back to Kathryn and saw some Indians running over the fields to their place. Chakotay lifted his hands, when they came. “We are coming in peace! We had an accident. My... friend is hurt!” He said in Indian language. He didn’t know much about this language but the Indians seemed to understand. One of them nodded and said something to Chakotay, but he didn’t understand. “Follow!” The Indian said in broken English and showed from himself to Chakotay. The man nodded. “Thank you!” He went back to Kathryn. She had lost consciousness again. So he lifted her softly up and carried her the way, the Indians showed. Kathryn woke up because of pain in her foot. She moaned and tried to retreat her foot. “It’s okay!” She felt a hand on hers. Softly she grabbed for that hand and hold it. Then the pain stopped slowly. She shivered and felt tears flowing over her cheeks. Softly she felt asleep again. When she woke up again, there was silence. Kathryn sobbed and tried to get up. There was only one picture before her sight. She had to bring them home. It was her fault, that they were out here. She had to bring all home and back to their families. She groped her way on the wall to the exit of the room. When she went out, the sun burned into her eyes. Why? Here couldn’t be sun! Sun was only... on earth... and they weren’t back on earth. Suddenly she felt a soft grasp at her shoulders. “Kathryn! What are you doing here?” – “I have to bring us back!” – “No! You have to stay in bed!” Chakotay said softly. Kathryn’s eyes bottled with tears. “It’s my fault!” She shivered. “What?” Chakotay was confused. “It’s my fault, that we’re here. It’s my fault that all the crew members are still in Delta Quadrant. There must have been another option. I...” She pressed close to his body. “I shouldn’t be the Captain...” – “What are you talking about?” Chakotay looked into her face. “You are a wonderful Captain! It was OUR decision to save the Ocampa in destroying the phallanx of the caretaker!” He whispered. “I wasn’t able to save them!” Kathryn looked at him in fever. “I wasn’t able to save you and Dad. Please forgive me!” – “Kathryn!” She lowered her mouth to his and closed her eyes. “No...” he murmured. “You have to return to bed... you...” But when her soft lips touched his, he was overwhelmed. She seemed so weak. He was afraid to hurt her and when his arms closed around her body, his grasp was soft. He felt, that he wanted more, than only a kiss. Suddenly, he interrupted the kiss and brought the woman back to bed. “No...” She reached out for him. “Justin... please... don’t leave again!” He looked at her. She was sleeping again. Softly, he stroke some hairs out of her face, then he kissed her forehead. “I hope, someday, you’ll say such things to me...” he said and then he got up. “Sleep well!” Kathryn pulled her foot away. “That hurts!” She said angrily and Chakotay looked up. “It wouldn’t if you kept silent!” Kathryn growled. “Why am I to stay in bed! I’m okay!” – “Sure!” Chakotay changed the bandage of her ankle. “I’m sorry!” Kathryn looked at the Indian. “I didn’t mean it!” – “Oh, it’s okay! I heard, you can be unbearable if you are ill.” He grinned and continued to bandage her ankle. Kathryn sighed. Suddenly, something came to her mind. She had kissed Chakotay! No... that wasn’t possible. It had to have been a dream. “Kathryn?” – “Mmm?” – “I...wanted to ask something. Yesterday... you spoke when you where asleep and... is it true, that you think it was your fault, that we are here?” She glanced at him in shock. “I... I... don’t...” Damned. That was her secret. She had never wanted to tell it to somebody. “No... I... don’t think...” – “You’re lying!” Chakotay said amused, then he got serious. “I want you to know, that nobody accuses you of decisions you’ve made. Especially not me! It was the only option, we had!” – “No! There were others! We could have... let a Shuttle back that could have destroyed caretaker’s phallanx. I could have stayed back in the Shuttle and...” – “Do you really think, I would have let you back?” He said with a sound in his voice that made Kathryn look at him. “I... I...” He shook his head. “I would never have given my permission to that. I’d prefer to stay forever in the Delta Quadrant to let you back alone.” – “Chakotay!” Kathryn shook her head. “You shouldn’t say things like that.” He nodded. “I know. I’m sorry, Captain!” He got up. “Well... I’ll look, if I can help something...” Kathryn shook her head. “Please... don’t leave!” she said and was shocked that she had said it out loud. He looked at her confused. She bowed her head and gazed at her hands. “I’m sorry. I am still a little bit... confused!” He went back to her and got to his knees. Then he lowered to her mouth. “I don’t think you are.” – “What?” She got more confused. “No... you... I... just can’t...” He laid his hand on her mouth. “Shht. I have to taste your lips. You... shouldn’t have kissed me yesterday...” She felt his lips on hers. “I... didn’t kiss you...” she whispered, but suddenly something became clear to her. It hadn’t been a dream! She felt Chakotays hands on her shoulders, touching her neck, her cheeks. Then he stopped the kiss and looked into her eyes. “I’m sorry! I know... I shouldn’t have done that... but...” He got up. “I better leave now!” And with that words he left the room, leaving her alone. Kathryn still felt the kiss and was still confused. Why had he apologized? She lowered to the ground and took the blanket over her body. Kathryn felt that the kiss had changed something in her. She was angry about herself. She was so much in her self-pity, that she hadn’t noticed, that there was somebody who loved her. It was hers to apologize, she knew that. She thought about that the whole day. The time was playing an awful game against her. Then, in the evening Chakotay came again for looking at her. Kathryn woke up immediately after she had felt his touch. “I’m sorry! I didn’t want to wake you up!” Chakotay said. “Do you want some water?” – “No!” she whispered and closed her eyes. “I’m sorry about what happened this morning. “I was... confused... I mean...” – “Let’s just forget about it, okay?” Chakotay said, and Kathryn glanced at him seriously. “no, I can’t!” she whispered. “I thought... it... had been a dream... that I kissed you... and... I didn’t know, how to... react, but... I... mean...” She hated situations like that. She lost control. He smiled, when he realized her situation. Then, suddenly, he kissed her. He pulled her into his arms, holding she softly while he was kissing her. She cried out and he whispered a short apologize. Then, when he let her go, she breathed heavily. He smiled and lowered her to the bed. Kathryn hesitated. He ran his hand over her cheek. “I want to be with you tonight!” he whispered. “I’m sorry for that, but... I’m not able to do otherwise.” Kathryn closed her eyes. “Stop speaking!” she whispered. He kissed her again very passionate and locked his hand with Kathryn’s. She sighed and her free hand stroked through his dark hair, then over his back, pulling him closer to her. He was afraid to hurt her, so he was very soft and careful. He hesitated, when he had finished the kiss. She had closed her eyes, only feeling him. He smiled and looked at her, then he laid his mouth down on her skin, kissing her cheek, then her neck and stopped for breathing her scent. How long had he been waiting for this. She opened his eyes and looked to the ceiling. Softly she stroked through his hairs. “Kathryn?” He looked up and glanced directly into her eyes. “Are you thinking of me... or of Justin?” he asked. For one little moment he saw pain in her eyes. “I... think of you, but... I still love Justin!” He pulled her close to her. “I didn’t want to hurt you. I’m sorry!” She looked up. “Please... make me forget about him!” she whispered. “You are the only one who is able to!” He smiled. “I love you!” He didn’t give her a chance to answer. But her kiss was more than thousand words could say. He opened her dress and dressed her out. He felt her shiver, when his mouth lowered her shoulder. Nobody has ever been like him. Kathryn thought and shut her eyes. Yes, she really started to forget about Justin. His touches, his kisses were so much like heaven, that she didn’t know, if she dreamt. She could feel him so close. She felt his skin on hers, setting hers on fire. “You’re so beautiful!” he whispered into her ear and she moaned. “Stop that!” she begged and he smiled. “I love you!” He kissed her ear, teasing her softly until she was only still shivering. He opened her hairs. She resisted for a short moment, holding his hand, but then she let him do. “I love your hairs!” he whispered into her ears and stopped for a moment for just breathing her scent. “You turn me crazy!” she whispered and he smiled. “Really? You should have more... control!” She smiled. “Sorry...” she whispered and looked at him. “It’s your fault, that I loose control!” – “Uh... if it’s that way...” He started to kiss her again. She lost herself totally in his kiss. He deepened his kiss and she didn’t want to let him go, but he let his mouth find a path down her body. Kathryn felt his kiss between her breasts. She softly lowered him to her breast, but he took her hands and held them. “That isn’t fair!” she whispered. He smiled. “I prefer being unfair in that point!” She cried out, when he kissed her body. She wasn’t prepared for that sweet torture and he didn’t want to let her hands go. When he finished the kiss on her tummy, he stopped again for a while, only looking at her. She started to curse him and he laughed breathless. Then he kissed her breast. She wasn’t prepared for that either, and so she caught breath for a moment. Suddenly she noticed, that he had let go of her hands. She tangled her hands into his hairs. “I love you!” she whispered breathless and he stopped. “no...” She smiled. “I’ll never say something again!” – “Oh, I’m sure you will!” he smiled and kissed her. He saw her in quite a different way. Short before, he had still seen the Captain in her, but now... he saw a woman, weak, but strong in a certain way, too. And he loved that site on her. And the more, he looked at her, the more he desired her. He didn’t want to loose control, but he wasn’t able to stop himself. His kisses got more passionate, desired more. And she gave it to him. When he finally came to her, she felt weightless. His mouth still covered hers, and she showed her desire. He was so soft and Kathryn felt, that he was the only one, she could ever love. Had she ever loved someone before? She got doubts now. He filled her desire completely and long time, they only lay there, next to next. Kathryn had closed her eyes. She had to think about this. Suddenly, she turned and lay her head on his shoulder. He closed his arms around her and kissed her hair. “And... how to continue now?” Kathryn asked. “I mean... we can’t... at least I can’t... have a love affair with someone who... deserves under me.” He smiled. “Why do you think about that now? Let’s just be happy now... at least until tomorrow!” Kathryn closed her eyes. “Sometimes... I really thank fate, that I... was able to go to that mission. If another Captain had got that mission... I’d never have met you! And... I’d regret that very much!” He kissed her again. “That was the most beautiful thing, you’ve ever said!” Kathryn laughed. “It isn’t a wonder. I usually only give orders to you!” She sighed tortured. He smiled. “I always loved serving under you.” His mouth met hers again, moved softly over her lips and then he stopped full of longing. Kathryn shivered. “We won’t come back to Voyager, will we?” She wasn’t able to help tears flowing over her cheeks. He felt her sobbing and softly pulling her closer to his body. “You know, I would do everything to get us out of here, only for seeing you happy. But... if we come back... what about us? Will you be my Captain again? Or just... the woman I love?” – “I don’t know!” she whispered. “You know... there is... protocol and...” – “Yes... damned protocol. Does it say something for the possibility that a starship is 70.000 lightyears away from home?” His hand ran over the skin of her back. “I just want you to be true to your feelings. If you think, this was... only an adventure, I’m not going to think, it was fair, but I’ll accept it. I want that you make your decision without thinking of protocol!” She shut her eyes and sighed. “I know you’re right, but...” – “It’s okay. Just think about it!” He smiled. “Let’s sleep now. I’m going to start repairings at the Shuttle tomorrow, and so we should get a good night’s sleep!” Kathryn giggled. “I’m not sure, I’m able to sleep!” – “You’ll be!” he grinned. “If you’re tired enough.” And then he kissed her passionate. “And I have an excellent method of making you tired.” “Tricorder!” Kathryn gave the tricorder to the Indian and sighed. “Is this going to be ready someday?” – “I don’t know! I should have taken a course of Shuttle technology in Academy!” She laughed. “Let’s take a rest!” – “Not until I’m finished with the damned engine!” Suddenly something hummed. “What’s that?” Kathryn asked and Chakotay grinned at her. “Communication!” Kathryn went into the Shuttle. She pushed a button. “Janeway to Voyager!” Nothing. The woman sighed and felt the hand of Chakotay on her shoulder. “I’ll send a permanent signal.” Janeway decided. She pushed some buttons. “I think, that’s it.” Chakotay sighed. “Maybe...” He went his tricorder over the control desk. “Let’s see... seems like...” He pushed some buttons. “Give a new try with your comm badge!” he ordered and Kathryn smiled. “Aye Captain!” She touched her comm badge. “Janeway to Voyager!” – “Kim here, Ma’am! Where are you?” Kathryn smiled at Chakotay. “I... don’t know. We were in something like a shock wave and then we landed here... it must be... earth in... mmm... I guess 18th or 19th century!” – “Understood. Could you give us some data from your tricorder!” Chakotay nodded. “I think, I’m able to manage this!” He pushed some buttons on his tricorder. “Okay! Data are transmitted!” – “We’ve got it!” Harry reported. “We’ll beam you out after we modulated transporters!” – “understood!” Kathryn said. “Janeway out.” She sighed. Chakotay stroke her hairs. “You have to make your decision soon!” he said and Kathryn nodded. Then he went out. “Captain! We’re glad to see you!” Kathryn nodded at Harry. “well done, Ensign. The doctor reported, that it has only been one day since we’re away!” – “That’s right!” – “Well... then... I think, I didn’t miss much!” Janeway smiled. “Okay, Mr. Paris. Resume course for the alpha Quadrant. Mr. Chakotay give me a systems check! I’m in my ready room.” She glanced at Chakotay and he understood. He got up and followed her. When the door shut behind them, Kathryn turned around and faced him. “What have you planned for this evening, Commander?” – “uh... I just wanted to relax and maybe go to mess hall...” – “Would you mind, if I join you? I mean... go out in... Venice. Looking at the stars... But... maybe you just want to hang around with Tom?” – “Uh... not at all!” he grinned. “If I have the option of going out with you...” He pulled her into his arms. “The most beautiful woman of galaxy. Who could resist?” And then he kissed her softly. They were so deepened in their kiss, that they didn’t hear the door chime ring. It rang again and Kathryn finished the kiss. “Um... come in!” she said nervous. B’Elanna looked at her first officer, then at her captain. “Uh... I just wanted to... give that report to you!” – “Yeah... thank you!” Kathryn said. B’Elanna laid the PADD down on her table. “Well...” she said. Chakotay smiled. “Any problems, Lieutenant?” – “Um... no... I still wanted to ask if you... ‘d like to join us in mess hall... ,Captain!” Kathryn took a deep breath. “I... don’t think so. I think I have a rendez-vous this evening with... some... crewmember reports.” She smiled. “I’m sorry!” – “Uh... it’s okay! And you, Commander? I’ll see you, won’t I?” – “I... have a terrible headache. And I think, I should... got to bed very early today.” B’Elanna’s face was regretful. “Oh... well I can’t change. Then... I’ll see you tomorrow morning!” she left the room. “She noticed, something was different!” Kathryn sighed. “Of course she did! But I’m sure... B’Elanna will not say anything.” Kathryn laughed. “A headache?” she said. “Maybe... I should take care of you.” – “I’d love nothing more!” And with hat words, he kissed her again, full of the longing he had had for months.
